There are few things more impressive then standing before a huge block of ice - talk about making you feel small! The Franz Josef Glacier is located on the west coast of the South Island of New Zealand. Franz Josef is a 12 km long glacier that descends from the Southern Alps to less than 300 meters above sea level - right into a green and lush rainforest! Hiking on this glacier was one of our best experiences in New Zealand - a definite don't miss!

I'm not normally a morning person, but when the day starts out with a scenic (and serene) hike through the woods it's hard to complain! This photo was shot at the base of Mt Warning in New South Wales, Australia.
